John McCain was one of the great Americans of our era. Far too many people caveat their remarks with their disagreements over one stance or another… but that’s the point.
He was a true legislator who wasn’t afraid of compromising or siding with anyone to get the best deal he could find… And yet, when he disagreed with anyone on either side, he pulled at them with all his might. That meant at one time or another, he fought with everyone, but we saw his true heart in his belief that our country’s values would set the whole world free, such as his bipartisan work on campaign finance reform.
Those who chastise McCain for his spectrum of politics or his view on an issue miss the point. He was one of the few men left in Washington that throughout his life proved that he believed in something greater than himself and directed his entire life’s work toward those goals.
If we had 100 senators who approached their own constituents and principles (liberal or conservative) as McCain did, we would be a much better country. And without his example, we are probably less.
Yes
As a person serving this Nation in uniform, I fully stand by this message.
I think the general public likes to see Veterans succeed. General sentiment is that Veterans end up wasting into obscurity so McCain’s humanitarian like views to get the best possible outcome regardless of side, strike a cord in the American psyche.
The gun-toting bible thumpers can’t mess with him cuz he was White, served in the war, and held office. Same Reach one teach one mentality. They figured if he can say or do it… it can’t be that bad.
Also proves that in regards to Obama… he wasn’t a bad guy after all because McCain saw his intelligence and understood probably begrudgingly at some point, that times have vastly changed, which made his supporters feel the same way.
It is definitely about his voting record. His corruption. His ability to set fires, then take his time getting to the fire extinguisher to put out the flames he caused. The fact that far too many times, he stood on the wrong side of history. His tea party politics, and all of the other powerful white male privilege bestowed upon him & his quest to preserve that privilege by any means, up to and including at the expense of the American people. Especially when they’re people of color. Let us never forget who John McCain truly was. The bad certainly outweighed the good.
I agree. Not to mention his record matches Pence on women’s issues. His change upon facing death was to clear him. His conscious. Not about America.
I think the point is he stood by what HE (and his people) believed in. So in some ways he believed and practiced truth. Truth to self and his people. The fire extinguisher comment can be applied to literally everyone. Hello Joe Biden?
Not counting the “voting record” of a politician is like saying nevermind to a major statistic in sports when reviewing the career of an athlete in retirement. I’m not sure how that’s possible, and to do so is a false argument.
