After getting punched in the face several times by a New Jersey Wildwood City Police Officer on Memorial Day Weekend, 20-year old Emily Weinman screamed, “I’m not one of these motherfu#&in ni$$a’s out here!”
55 seconds of disbelief as she’s mishandled by the police followed by her racist remark immediately makes you question how sorry you initially felt for her.

Police brutality and explicit racism of those being brutalized is not something we hear about often. But the incident this past weekend was caught on video and it’s hard to ignore what Emily yells in anger right before the video ends.
Why would she think it’s appropriate to yell such a thing? If pushed, I’m sure she’ll release an apology suggesting she’s not a racist and that it was said in the heat of the moment. And like all similar apologies, it’ll blow over. It won’t be held against her for jobs or future opportunities because “she’s young and she really didn’t mean it.” Same script different person.
But if a 20-year non-Black woman in this country is conditioned to believe that only people of color are treated unjustly or brutalized by the police, and that the color of her skin grants her a pass unlike her fellow American’s who are of a different race, culture, or creed, then one things for sure – this country isn’t progressing, if anything it’s regressing.
Underage drinking was her supposed crime. According to Wildwood Mayor Ernie Troiano, Jr., “She refused to comply… Unfortunately, this is what happened.” They’ve launched an internal affairs investigation; but if after reviewing the video the city’s mayor can make such a statement, that should tell us all we need to know about who they believe is at fault. When you have back up, there’s gotta be a better / easier way to arrest someone… on the beach… who poses no physical threat.
Police brutality is real, and similar to mass incarceration, every now and then it snatches an unintended target. This time it was Emily Weinman.
If it’s possible to focus solely on the arrest and ignore her racist comment, which should be a lot to ask of any decent person, the police officer definitely took it too far and hopefully, justice will be served. She definitely didn’t deserve to be treated like this. And maybe, just maybe, her experience will help her realize that even people of color, or as she referred to them, these motherfu#&in ni$$a’s, don’t deserve to be treated like this either.
Let us know what you think. The intersectionality of police brutality and race is quite unusual in this incident.

What she said was absolutely wrong. You cannot use the “heat of the moment” card, when the words you use seem to have been fostered by the media, society, and your own prejudices.
With that said, what the police officer did went too far. Both incidents for this woman are separate in the sense that yes, you can feel sorry for her for the treatment she received because that’s what a decent human being would fee, and disgust at the same time for her stupidity and sense of privilege she believes she has, due to the color of her skin.
It’s crazy that it’s come this. I’m sure she’s an “all lives” or “blue lives matter” supporter; watching her get handled like this only solidifies the left’s police brutality argument, and for that reason I do feel sorry for her. If you’re combating police brutality then even this upsets you. What she said is absolutely horrible, but the police are out line and she shouldn’t have been assaulted. We have to be better than people we disagree with, and not gloat when they’re in an unfortunate situation. Police brutality in the US,is the issue. Police are being trained like military soldiers and are resulting to violence when called to “serve and protect.” We need to figure out why the Israeli military police is training US police departments (actual fact, look it up) and stop it— maybe this will also help with the Israeli-Palestinian conflict?
My petty side wants to say “she should have never resisted” “We don’t know what happened before”…. You know, the normal spiel. But no one deserves harm. BUT after hearing what SHE said ….. Eff her and her feelings.
But those police officers are cowards…. The way he handled her. He clearly had hit a woman like that before. It was like first nature to him. He didn’t flinch not once nor stop to think about but hitting her. No hesitation.
I feel no sympathy at all for her although she didn’t lie. If she was one of these “niggas” it’s quite possible she would have lost her life ???
She shouldn’t be punched in the face. Buuut as her counterparts always say in the comments “shouldn’t have been resisting in the first place” “just comply” “stop being an animal”
I don’t know if “feeling sorry” is the correct phrasing. With her attitude it becomes very easy to slip into a “she had it coming” or a “served her right” mindset…. and that’s not correct either.
The incident speaks volumes about two huge ongoing problems, one if which is the police violence problem…. the second, is the obvious racism that is so prevalent in society.
Her very reaction suggests that she has been aware of the police violence issue, and she has been completely ok with it because it didn’t impact people that “look like her”.
The reactions and excuses to follow will be very telling.
She definitely shouldn’t be punched. However, I won’t lose any sleep over this ??♀️
She looks Hispanic so to the police she IS another ??????. She just got a WAKE UP call. I’m sure she’ll do what the police TELL her to do next time now that she knows her LIGHTER skin doesn’t protect her from getting a foot in her behind. No sympathy for her. The racist should’ve “ stopped resisting “ .
She is a underage, was lying to the cops when question about drinking on the beach, spit on the cop and kick one in the groin. Doesn’t deserved to get punch nor should any man punch a woman in the face but what troubles me is the lack of training on the cops that they cannot wrestle and restrain a 115lbs woman. Lack of training.
Bad look on both sides just my opinion.
